Let’s Talk Intentions


Do you know what this word means? I know we’ve all heard it before, but what does it really mean? I want to offer you two definitions of the word, ‘intentions’-

  • what one intends to do or bring about
  • a determination to act a certain way

As we go through this discussion about living more intentional lives, it will be helpful to remember these definitions.

First, I want to know if you have ever gone through a day (or multiple days) where you felt like you had no control of what you were doing? I have and I have actually felt like this many times throughout college. Some days, I feel like I am living on autopilot and those are my least favorite days. At the end of these days when I hit my pillow, I think, what did I just do?  

Because of the crazy year we have all had with Covid and life in general, I thought it would be good to get back on track. Living on autopilot is temporary and there are ways to get out of it. Setting your intentions straight can be your stepping stone for making this year better. Again, intentions do not have to be scary. Yes, it does require taking time to think about what your core values and goals are, but the payoff will be so worth it.

Start With You 

Like I said above, intentions start with YOU. What are your goals? What are you doing in order to achieve these goals? Do you feel like you are living up to your full potential? If you answered ‘no’ to the last question, then maybe it is time for a change. Change happens slowly, so even a baby step like setting your intentions will count toward the end-goal.

9 Ways to Start Living Intentionally NOW

  1. Limit your media consumption
  2. Make to-do lists
  3. Do your hardest tasks in the morning
  4. Dedicate specific time slots for everything
  5. Surround yourself with people who help you keep your intentions
  6. Say no to things that do not inspire you or bring you closer to your goals
  7. Find hobbies that bring you joy
  8. Schedule time for yourself
  9. Write out what your goals are and how you are going to achieve them

This list is not perfect nor is it the only list you can pull from, but it is great for getting started. Even while I was writing this list, I was already thinking about what my goals are how I can position myself in a way to achieve them using this blog. I hope you are starting to feel inspired, too!
